How To Create A Blog Using Blogger.com

If you are thinking of the easiest free way to create a blog, then Blogger is the way to go.

You can set up your blog and publish your first post within minutes.

As I have mentioned in my previous post, Blogger is easy to navigate and to set up. The disadvantage is it has limited features and you have only so much control over the design and layout of your blog.

Nevertheless, for a beginner this is a good starter.

To start with, go to www.blogger.com.

Click on CREATE A BLOG to start creating your Blogger blog. This will take you to this page:

Fill in the information needed to create a blog. You can find a guide on what to fill on the right side column. If you have an existing Google account like Gmail, iGoogle, Google groups or Orkut, you need to sign in first and use that account to create a blog. Blogger.com is owned by Google so you can use the same account as Google.

Your password must be 8 characters in length and preferably should use letters and numbers. If your password is weak, blogger.com will not accept it.

Display name is the name that will appear in your blogs and is visible to readers. You can use your real name or pen name.

Lastly, please don’t forget to check the “Acceptance of Terms” otherwise you will not be directed to the next page.

Click on “Continue” to go to the next page.

You are now ready to name your blog. I hope by this time you have now decided on what to blog about. I have outlined a guide on how to create a successful blog on my previous blog. This will guide you on what topic to talk about in your blog. If you are undecided yet, you can create a general blog to start with.

On the example above, I decided to blog about my grandma’s favorite recipes. She happens to be a great cook and I have inherited her passion as well.

Please take note about the blog address because this is where you will find your blog. Your blog address will look like this: http://yourblog.blogspot.com. The main domain is blogspot.com not blogger.com.

It is advisable to use your blog title as your blog address so that it is easy to remember. However it is not required that the two are the same. Click on “Check availability” to see if your chosen blog address is available.

If it’s ok, then fill in the word verification and click on “Continue”.  You neglect the advance options for now.

This time you choose how your blog will look like by choosing a template. In choosing a template, choose something that is readable and not cluttered design so that your readers will not have a hard time reading your blog. Click on continue to go to the next page.

Congratulations! Your blog has been created. You can now start blogging.
